free tool · invoicing
A free NZ invoice template that does the GST for you.
Fill it in below, and it works out GST at 15%, tells you if anything IRD asks for is missing, then prints or saves as a PDF. Nothing is uploaded: it all stays in your browser, and it remembers your business details for next time.
Tax invoice
| Description | Qty | Unit price | Amount |
|---|
| Subtotal (excl. GST) | $0.00 |
| GST at 15% | $0.00 |
| Total (incl. GST) | $0.00 |
Your browser keeps what you type so the next invoice starts filled in. It never leaves this device. In the print dialog, choose "Save as PDF" to email it.
the rules
What an NZ invoice has to show.
IRD no longer talks about "tax invoices". If you are GST registered, what you need to keep and give is taxable supply information, and how much of it depends on the size of the sale.
- $200 or lessYour name or trading name, the date, a description of what you supplied, and the amount. The customer's details are not required.
- Over $200, up to $1,000All of the above plus your GST number, and either the amount before GST, the GST and the total, or the GST-inclusive total with a statement that GST is included.
- Over $1,000All of the above, plus, if your customer is GST registered, their name and at least one more detail: address, phone, email, trading name, NZBN or website.
If a GST-registered customer asks for this information on a sale over $200, you have 28 days to provide it (or another date you both agree). It does not have to be one document: invoices, contracts and bank statements can be used together.
From IRD's How taxable supply information for GST works, checked 22/10/2026. IRD is the final word, so check there if your situation is unusual.

Tired of making invoices by hand?
If you are retyping jobs into invoices and invoices into Xero, that is the kind of thing we fix: your job tool or quotes connected to Xero, so the invoice writes itself when the job is done.
